From the Urals to the Silk Road: Ufa, Yekaterinburg and Perm Now Fly Direct to Tashkent

In early September the morning air over Ufa already carries frost. Four hours later you step out onto the apron in Tashkent into twenty-seven degrees, into the smell of bread pulled hot from a tandyr and apricot wood smoking under a cauldron of plov. No transfer in Moscow. No overnight in an airport chair. One flight, and you are on the Silk Road.

From September 2026 that flight exists — three of them, in fact.

New direct flights from Russia's regions to Uzbekistan

Uzbek carrier Centrum Air is opening three new routes linking Russian regional cities directly with Tashkent: Tashkent–Ufa from 3 September 2026 with two weekly frequencies, Tashkent–Yekaterinburg from 4 September 2026, and Tashkent–Perm from 7 September 2026, all operated by Airbus A320 and A320neo aircraft. They join services the airline launched earlier this year from Krasnodar and Vladivostok.

The practical effect for travellers in the Urals and the Volga region is simple: Uzbekistan stops being a trip that costs you two days of connections and becomes a long weekend, or an unhurried ten-day autumn journey.

Velvet season: why September and October are Uzbekistan's best months

Uzbeks call it Oltin Kuz — the golden autumn. September afternoons hold at 22–28°C and October settles into 18–22°C, which is precisely the temperature at which the Registan stops being a photograph and becomes a place you can stand in for an hour without moving.

It is also harvest. Siab Bazaar in Samarkand fills with melons stacked like artillery shells, pomegranates split to the seed, sun-dried apricots, walnuts, and the hard sweet non bread stamped with a chekich. Autumn in Uzbekistan is a season you eat as much as you see: plov cooked over open fire in Tashkent, shivit oshi — green dill noodles — in Khiva, and clay-oven samsa on every corner of Bukhara.

Afrosiyob: Samarkand in about two hours

Once you land, the country is small in the best way. The Afrosiyob high-speed train covers Tashkent to Samarkand in roughly two hours, and continues to Bukhara. Uzbekistan is currently expanding its high-speed network further west, which will pull Khiva and ancient Khorezm into the same easy rhythm. Classic autumn routes run Tashkent–Samarkand–Bukhara–Khiva, with room for the Fergana Valley's silk and ceramics workshops, the yurt camps of the Kyzylkum, or the mountain villages of Nuratau above Lake Aydarkul.

No visa, no language barrier, no guesswork

Russian citizens travel to Uzbekistan without a visa, and Russian is widely spoken in hotels, bazaars and museums across the country — from the ticket window at the Registan to the taxi at three in the morning. Menus, guides and museum labels are routinely bilingual. For many travellers from the CIS, Uzbekistan is the rare foreign country where nothing needs translating and everything still feels far away.
