Is Uzbekistan visa-free for Indian citizens? Uzbekistan announced a 30-day visa-free regime for Indian citizens during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit on 29–30 August 2026, and since 1 September 2026 Indians holding a valid multiple-entry business or tourist visa issued by several countries, plus an onward ticket, can already stay up to 30 days without a visa. Check the latest conditions before you fly; the e-visa remains available.
Now picture the journey this opens. A short flight north over the mountains, and you are standing on a hill above Andijan where a young prince once walked among gardens he later described in his memoirs. That prince was Babur, and the empire he founded in India gave the world the Mughal gardens, miniatures and monuments that Indian travellers know by heart. In Uzbekistan, the story begins where he did.
Uzbekistan visa-free for Indians: what we know
According to Travel Trade Journal, the 30-day visa-free regime was announced during Prime Minister Modi's state visit, at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who said it would make a significant contribution to people-to-people contacts, tourism and business. The national news agency UzA adds that, as of 1 September 2026, Indian nationals with a valid multiple-entry business or tourist visa issued by several countries, along with an air ticket home or to a third country, may stay in Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 30 days from entry.
Because implementation details can change, we confirm the current entry rules for every Indian guest before booking. If a rule does not yet cover your situation, the official e-visa is the simple fallback.
Weddings, films and fashion: India and Uzbekistan's new tourism roadmap
On 7 October 2026, UzA reported that Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of Uzbekistan's Tourism Committee, met India's Ambassador for Tourism and Culture, Ritu Beri. The two sides agreed on concrete joint projects: a visit to Uzbekistan by leading figures of India's wedding industry, cooperation on filming an Indian movie in the country, and a familiarisation tour for India's fashion and design industry and specialised media. A separate roadmap is to be signed to put these initiatives into practice.
For Indian families dreaming of a destination wedding or a milestone celebration, it is easy to see the appeal: the tiled courtyards of Samarkand and Bukhara were made for grand entrances and unforgettable photographs. Our team also organises corporate and event travel in Uzbekistan, and owns a 500-capacity event venue in Bukhara.
Babur's homeland: Andijan and the Fergana Valley for Indian travellers
Babur, founder of the Mughal Empire, was born on 14 February 1483 in Andijan, in the Fergana Valley of today's Uzbekistan, as his biography records. Today the city honours him with a memorial park on Bogishamol hill, the place he wrote about in the Baburnama as a favourite garden for walks and solitude. The official tourism portal lists the Babur Memorial Park and House Museum, and in 1993 a symbolic tomb was raised there holding earth brought from his burial place in Kabul.
From Andijan the Silk Road unfolds westward: Samarkand, the city of Babur's ancestor Timur, then Bukhara and Khiva. Indian travellers can combine Mughal roots, Islamic architecture, bazaars full of spices and fruit, and vegetarian-friendly Uzbek dishes on request.
