Up 25%: Why the World Is Heading to Uzbekistan in 2026

How fast is tourism to Uzbekistan growing in 2026? Very fast: international tourist arrivals rose by 25% in January–June 2026, with more than 6.6 million visitors — the fastest growth among the European destinations tracked by UN Tourism, according to Uzbekistan's Tourism Committee.

Numbers rarely tell you how a place feels, but this one does. Somewhere right now a traveller is stepping into the Registan for the first time and going quiet. Someone else is tearing a warm round of bread at a Bukhara bazaar, or watching the walls of Khiva turn the colour of honey at sunset. This year, more people than ever are discovering that Silk Road magic for themselves.

Uzbekistan tourism in 2026: the numbers behind the boom

The figures come from a statement by Uzbekistan's Tourism Committee following UN Tourism's latest World Tourism Barometer, reported on 1 October 2026 by the news agency Trend. Globally, international arrivals reached about 690 million in January–June, up only 0.4% year-on-year. Europe grew by 3% over the same period. Uzbekistan's 25% rise outpaced both by a wide margin.

The reasons are practical: new international air connections, simpler entry procedures, a wider range of tourism products and active promotion of the country abroad. Today citizens of around 90 countries can visit Uzbekistan visa-free. Uzbek authorities have set a target of welcoming 20 million international tourists a year by 2030 — so this is a destination on the rise, not at its peak.

Why travellers are choosing the Silk Road now

What draws people is simple and timeless. Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are living cities, not open-air museums: madrasas still frame busy squares, bakers still slap dough onto the walls of clay ovens, and the call of the bazaar has not changed in centuries. Add the generosity of Uzbek hospitality, a table that never seems to empty, and landscapes that run from desert to the Tian Shan mountains, and it is easy to see why first-time visitors so often plan a second trip.

For a complete first look, our Unforgettable Journey through Uzbekistan connects the great cities of the Silk Road in one itinerary. If you prefer private guides, premium hotels and seamless transfers, the VIP Uzbekistan 7-day tour covers Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva in style.

How to visit before the crowds: plan smart

Growth brings a simple rule: the best rooms and the best guides go first. A few tips from our team on the ground:

  • Book early for spring and autumn. These are the most popular seasons for city touring, and boutique hotels in the old towns fill quickly.
  • Consider the quieter months. Late autumn and winter bring calmer streets and an unhurried pace in the monuments — ideal for photographers and slow travellers.
  • Start early in the day. Sunrise at the Registan or along the walls of Khiva is a different experience from midday.
  • Stay inside the old cities. In Bukhara, a hotel close to the historic centre lets you walk out at dawn and return after the evening light — for example, Dendi Plaza Hotel in Bukhara.

Travel with a licensed local operator

As demand rises, local knowledge matters more: knowing when a madrasa courtyard is quiet, which train to take, which family workshop still makes ceramics by hand. GoUzbekistan is a licensed tour operator with offices in Tashkent and Bukhara, operating since 2007. We design private and small-group journeys, VIP programmes and tailor-made itineraries for travellers and for partner tour operators.
