Bujará es una de las ciudades más antiguas de Asia Central y Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO desde 1993. Durante siglos fue un gran centro de comercio y de saber islámico en la Ruta de la Seda.
Su ciudad vieja se recorre a pie: el conjunto Poi Kalyan con el minarete Kalyan del siglo XII, la fortaleza del Arca, el mausoleo de los Samánidas, Chor-Minor, las cúpulas comerciales y el estanque de Lyabi-Hauz, rodeado de casas de té.
Alojarse en un hotel boutique de la ciudad vieja, muchos en casas tradicionales con patio, es la mejor forma de vivir el ambiente de Bujará al amanecer y al atardecer.
