The event was attended by Iran’s Minister of Cooperation, Labor, and Social Welfare, Ahmad Meydari; Governor of Khuzestan, Mohammadreza Mavalizadeh; Advisor to the Minister of Health, Amir Sadri; Chairman of the Medical Tourism Association, Hossein Nikunam; and representatives and leaders of Iran’s leading tourism companies.
In his speech, Uzbekistan’s ambassador stated that under the leadership of the country’s president, significant reforms have been implemented in the tourism sector in recent years.
It was emphasized that these changes have been recognized by the international community, with the 25th session of the "UN Tourism" General Conference held in Samarkand in 2023, and in 2024, Khiva was designated the Tourism Capital of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, while Shakhrisabz was named the Tourism Capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
Additionally, participants were informed that Samarkand will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference this year.
During the presentation, detailed information was provided about major cultural events in Uzbekistan, such as the "Sharq Taronalari" International Music Festival, the International Maqom Art Festival, the Bakhshi Art Festival, handicraft festivals, as well as the "Great Silk Road" and "Lazgi" international festivals of folklore and dance arts, and the Tashkent International Film Festival.
Professor Bahman Akbari of Tehran University stated in his speech that Iran's foreign policy prioritizes close neighborly relations, and developing cooperation with Uzbekistan is an important aspect of this strategy. He called on Iran’s leading tourism companies to further strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan.
