Uzbekistan successfully combines the development of tourism infrastructure with the preservation of cultural heritage

A significant event was held in Uzbekistan, focusing on the large-scale reforms in the tourism sector and the preservation of cultural heritage. The event was attended by the rector of the university, Uzbekistan's tourism brand ambassador, Eko Sri Margianti, professors and lecturers of the "Silk Road" International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand, leading Indonesian experts, scholars, representatives of educational institutions and tourism organizations, local media professionals, artists, and social media activists.

During the roundtable discussion, participants explored key topics such as cultural exchange along the Silk Road, the preservation of cultural heritage, the training of new professionals in the tourism sector, scientific research, the role of educational programs in strengthening international ties, and prospects for tourism development.

Indonesian industry representatives were provided with in-depth information about Uzbekistan’s large-scale tourism reforms, Islamic pilgrimage sites, the country’s modern landscape, its unique and breathtaking nature, the culture of hospitality, and the customs and traditions of the Uzbek people.

Experts participating in the event emphasized the importance of developing new educational programs for training future professionals in cultural tourism and heritage preservation. It was noted that scientific research programs on cultural exchanges along the Silk Road would contribute to a deeper understanding of history and promote cultural diversity.

Additionally, it was highlighted that student and faculty exchange programs provide an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the cultural heritage of different countries. The necessity of supporting and encouraging such initiatives in the field of education was emphasized. Organizing online courses dedicated to the history and cultural heritage of the Silk Road could enhance students' knowledge and broaden their understanding of historical continuity and a shared cultural and spiritual space.

In an interview with IA "Dunyo," the rector of Gundarama University and Uzbekistan’s tourism brand ambassador, Eko Sri Margianti, stated:

  • Bridges between nations can be built through a deep understanding of history, culture, and traditions. I firmly believe that educational exchange programs that allow students to explore different cultural environments will serve as a crucial factor in fostering mutual cooperation.

Developing educational programs and organizing modern online courses aimed at preparing specialists with the potential to work in cultural tourism and heritage preservation are among our top priorities today. One of the essential aspects of tourism sector development is creating comfortable conditions for travelers. In this regard, special attention should be given to improving hotel infrastructure and enhancing the international transportation system.

It is crucial to integrate large-scale projects, such as the development of tourism infrastructure, with initiatives focused on preserving cultural heritage. In recent years, Uzbekistan has achieved remarkable success in promoting pilgrimage tourism. These high achievements are the result of a strong commitment to the country’s history, its past, and the national values of the Uzbek people.

In Uzbekistan, all projects related to the restoration of historical monuments, the preservation of rare manuscripts, the protection of centuries-old architectural masterpieces, and the promotion of cultural heritage are funded and encouraged at the state level.

Thanks to the consistent reforms in the tourism sector, ancient cities such as Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva remain among the most attractive and sought-after tourist destinations not only for travelers from the Muslim world but also for visitors from Western countries.
